Babarak Records the Goldberg Variations! A one-of-a-kind ensemble featuring the world’s leading virtuosos on horn, violin, bass clarinet, and marimba! The ensemble led by Baboarak has recorded the Goldberg Variations! This highly anticipated album features a lineup of violin, horn, bass clarinet, and marimba, with world-class musicians performing each part. Arranged by Czech composer Tomáš Ille (b. 1971). Originally commissioned by Baboarak during his tenure as curator of the Dvořák Prague Festival, the work premiered at the festival in September 2017. The original version was written for violin, horn, bassoon, and guitar, but for this recording, several revisions were made: the guitar part was replaced by marimba, and the bassoon was changed to bass clarinet. The violin part is performed by Dalibor Kalvay (who served as first concertmaster of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra from 2020 to 2025), a friend with whom Babo拉克 has performed for many years. The bass clarinet part is performed by Petr Valašek, a member of the Clarinet Factory with over 25 years of experience. The marimba is played by Andrei Pushkarev, who is also active as a composer and arranger and has been a long-standing member of the Kremerata Baltica led by Gidon Kremer. The *Goldberg Variations* is one of the most renowned and celebrated masterpieces not only in the classical repertoire but in the entire world of music. While numerous arrangements have existed to date, this recording offers yet another fresh perspective, resulting in a truly unique performance that effortlessly transcends the boundaries of genre and interpretation, as well as the limits of technique. “When performed in this ensemble, the *Goldberg Variations* resonate like a conversation among four friends discussing a central theme. Each of the four approaches the theme through the individuality and characteristics of their respective instruments. In some passages, they create sharp contrasts with one another, while in others, they all move in the same direction. At times, all other instruments fall silent, leaving a single voice to speak. In other moments, they all come together to sing, joyfully quoting folk-like melodies. A source of inspiration and creativity that remains inexhaustible even after centuries, and which has given rise to many romantic anecdotes, this music—like the works of a composer such as Bach (and there are not many composers like him)—suggests something that transcends the work itself: that all creation is not a matter of chance, but that good deeds and human existence itself hold meaning.
