Magdalena Kozhener, one of the best singers in the world today, made an intriguing recording in her native Czech Republic. What an album of Cole Porter's (1891-1964) hit songs! She sang a total of 15 songs including popular numbers such as "Begin the Beginning" and "Night and Day" in beautiful Rattle-inspired (?) English. The songs are sung in beautiful English with a rattle-like (?) style. The songs are not sung in an operatic style, but in a good old-fashioned atmosphere, as if heard from a prewar black-and-white movie or an SP gramophone. The accompaniment is also noteworthy in that they have studied prewar orchestras and recreated their playing style and sound. It is a very tasteful album. Kozenar was fascinated by Porter's music when he was a student, and he has loved and continues to adore the recordings of the legendary jazz greats of his time. He has said that the reason he has never sung Porter's music, despite his passion for it, is because he has always felt that something is missing when it is performed by a classically trained vocalist.However, when he heard Frederika von Stade sing porter, his eyes were opened to the fact that she had created a fascinating and different world without compromising her own style, and he decided to sing porter in his own way. Kozenaer studied phrasing and delicate singing with a microphone, and tried to make her singing as natural as possible.
