Before the BISHOP brothers teamed up with drummer/shaman CHARLIE GOCHER to form SCG's Classic Trio, there were many improvised gatherings of eccentric oddballs in and around Phoenix. It was out of this environment that PARIS 1942, a band formed around guitarist JESSE SROGONCIK, was born. PARIS 1942 was formed from April to August 1982. PARIS 1942 played only four shows during a four-month period between April and August 1982. The rest of the time, they met several times a week in Tucker's living room and spent their time writing and rehearsing songs.The band never released any material during their career, and after their demise in the mid to late 1990s, a 7" EP and LP (both self-titled) were secretly released on MAJORA LABEL, and were only included on PLACEBO RECORDS' compilations. The collection of sound sources has now been released on CD/LP from SUPERIOR VIADUCT! While never betraying those who expect the destructive charm of SUN CITY GIRLS and the primitive, druggy grooves of the VELVETS, the intense, primitive avant-garage punk tunes from the pen of guitarist SROGONCIK are just as intense. This is an amazing collection that miraculously fills in the missing links between The Velvet Underground, Richard Hell & The Voidz, The Dead Boys and The Dead C, and ESP Discs and No Wave.
