What if we knew we weren’t alone? What if someone showed us and proved it to us—would you be afraid? This summer, the truth will belong to 8 billion people. Today is… Disclosure Day. To compose the music for *Disclosure Day*, director Steven Spielberg turned to his friend and longtime collaborator, John Williams. With 54 Academy Award® nominations and five wins (for *Fiddler on the Roof*, *Jaws*, *Star Wars*, *E.T.*, *Schindler’s List*), also composed the music for Spielberg’s *Close Encounters of the Third Kind*, which features the iconic “five-note” phrase used to communicate with aliens. The soundtrack for *Disclosure Day* marks the 30th film collaboration between Spielberg and Williams. “Can you believe this is our 30th film together?” says Spielberg. “John just turned 94, but he’s still as extraordinarily talented as he was when he was 40. I’m simply amazed by the depth and breadth of his career. The music for *Disclosure Day* is probably the most restrained score of all our collaborations to date—at least until the moment comes when it isn’t. But until that intense moment arrives, he remains understated with a delicate and beautiful approach, which enriches the film experience. It’s as if the music is nestled just slightly behind the film, gently propelling the work forward. Although music production is usually the last step in our process, I always say it’s a reward for having completed the film—the greatest reward of all: getting to hear a new score by John Williams.” (1/2)
