Saxophonist Noah Preminger, who recently released a leader album with Criss Cross, and guitarist Max Wright, who is also the second-place winner in a competition sponsored by the Herbie Hancock Institute, have garnered much attention. The two met in Boston in 2015 through trumpeter Jason Palmer's band, and played together for three years at the prestigious Wally's Jazz Club. They performed together. They also released "Songs We Love" on SteepleChase in 2021. This album is a follow-up to that. The album features a wide variety of material, including ethereal interpretations of Elliott Smith's songs, selections that pay tribute to Anthony Braxton, and original compositions and standards written specifically for this album. While preparing for the recording in different cities, they brought their ideas to each other in the studio and created the work in one fell swoop.
