2017 marks the 250th anniversary of Telemann's death. Telemann, who was the music director of Hamburg and left behind many works, was ordered by the city to write a Passion every year, and he wrote many Passion pieces based on the Gospels of John, Luke, and Matthew. He wrote many Passion pieces based on the Gospels of John, Luke, and Matthew, but not all of them have yet been published or performed. The "Matthew Passion" from 1746 was written by Telemann at the age of 65, later than Bach's works, and is compact enough to fit on one CD, but the content is very rich. Naxos Japan
