Description:
Carl Weigl was one of the composers persecuted by the Nazis for his "decadent music. Weigl studied composition under Zemlinsky and was strongly influenced by Schoenberg when he was a student at the Vienna Conservatory, but Weigl himself did not identify with the twelve-tone technique, preferring the style of the late Romantic period. The "Piano Concerto for the Left Hand" was written for Wittgenstein, who lost his right hand in the war, but for some reason it was never performed, and was finally premiered in Vienna in 2002. Coupled with the Violin Concerto, also a forgotten work, recorded in Germany in 2013. (C)RS
