The piano concertos of Tchaikovsky (1840-1893) have been performed numerous times, and all of them are full of beauty that captures the listener's heart. This performance, however, will be remembered as one of the most unique among them. From the beginning of the piece, which usually starts off too brilliantly, there is something strange about it. The tempo setting and dunamics are meticulously devised by Eschenbach, and the overly delicate touch of the piano is strangely audible. The pianist Barthes is an American pianist who has released many CDs mainly for EMI and ONDINE, and he was also shown playing a Chopin concerto on a low-priced DVD. Today, although his hairstyle has been cleaned up, his unique interpretation is still there, and you can listen to some interesting Tchaikovsky anyway.Maslennikov, who plays cello in "Rococo," has also played with Eschenbach and previously released a Shostakovich concerto. His carefree and bright sound is impressive on this album. Naxos Japan
