Description:
The music of Kurt Weill (1900-1950) is still very popular today, and this 2-CD set is a compilation of rare sound recordings that convey the passionate atmosphere of his first performances. Weill's music may sound light at first listen, but its satire and irony are difficult to appreciate in their entirety. In these recordings of the original cast, we also get to hear the ultimate "Mack the Knife. Brecht & Weill are very popular in the theater world, but their singing style, which is very tasteful, is not easy to imitate. The "Little Three-Penny Opera" for brass band is conducted by Klemperer, whose light-hearted conducting is quite different from Klemperer's familiar austerity. There are plenty of other performances, from a performance full of jazz flavor to a song by Lotte Rainha. This 2-disc set is full of charm and once you get hooked, you can't get out. Naxos Japan
