Here is a passionate performance of “The Miller’s Daughter” by the young tenor Daniel Bäre. Born in Hamburg, Bäre has recently been in high demand at various opera houses. He is a rising star attracting significant attention; most recently, he showcased his crystal-clear voice in *The Magic Flute* conducted by Jacobs, rapidly gaining recognition among Japanese fans. The PHOENIX label has also released a collection of art songs by five composers (PE-154), in which he delivered a wonderful, nuanced performance; however, this recording of *The Miller’s Daughter* conveys the emotions of youth in a more direct and unadorned manner. Her expression is remarkably vivid right from the first track, “Wandering.” Rather than treating this simple song as a mere art song, she carefully varies her interpretation with each repetition, rendering it with truly rich color.
