Description:
The Oboe Concerto, dedicated to the renowned British oboist Léon Goossens (1897–1988)—the younger brother of Eugene Goossens, known as the “troublemaker conductor”—features captivating, sustained melodic lines. The contrast between melancholic passages and the rhythms of cheerful dance pieces is particularly striking. The “Songs on Poems by Blake” create a world of intricate detail featuring only the oboe and voice. They evoke a sense of freshness, as if one were gazing at a landscape painting rendered in watercolors. Just how many scenes are packed into that stillness! The album also includes the well-known “Fantasia on a Theme by Tallis” and the lesser-known “Music for the Home.” You can fully savor the emotionally rich oboe playing of Renches, principal oboist of the Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra.
