Jaap van Zweden, music director of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra since 2008 and of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra since 2012, has grown remarkably over the past decade, and has also gained worldwide attention. He has released several albums with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, all to great acclaim. But this Mahler (1860-1911) No. 3 seems to be an outstanding achievement, surpassing past performances. The brilliant first movement, the delicate second movement, the comical third movement, the mysterious fourth movement (O'Connor's solo is also wonderful), and the lively fifth movement.
