Quartet Records, in cooperation with GDM and Finross, will release a remastered edition of Tre Colonne in Cronaca, a film by Carlo Vanzina starring Gian Maria Volonte. The film chronicles a politician's dark plot to seize control of an opposition newspaper. A Muslim terrorist receives an order to kill a stockbroker, which triggers a series of threats and deceptions. Brave journalists try to shed light on all these quagmire issues, but the politicians have no hesitation and know extraordinary deftness by heart. A big fan of Elio Petri's work, especially INVESTIGATION OF A CITIZEN ABOVE SUSPICION, Vanzina relied on the film's actors (Volonte), editor (Ruggiero Mastroianni), director of photography (Luigi Cveirell) and composer, He drew reference lines to his own films. For Petri, Morricone assumes and redefines the principles that govern his work. There is no bold experimentation, but the subversive elements, intensity, and expressiveness remain.The music has a grotesque, cunning, and perverse character, and is tinged with an aspect of sensationalism. The album of Tre Colonne in Cronaca was released in 1990 on LP and CD in a short program of less than 30 minutes; in 2002, the GDM CD Club released a limited edition of all the music recorded for the film, supervised by the composer and produced by Daniel Winkler and Claudio Produced by Fuiano, the limited edition release sold out quickly. This is a reissue of the same program, revised and mastered by Chris Malone. The booklet includes liner notes by Miguel Angel Ordonez on the film, music, and composers.
