A New Handel, Performed by a Countertenor! From 1706 to 1710, the young Georg Friedrich Handel embarked on an extended journey through various regions of Italy. This experience had a decisive influence on his creative work; while immersed in what was then Europe’s most sophisticated musical culture, he energetically composed numerous secular cantatas. These works are regarded as among the most intimate and emotionally profound of his entire career. This album features five cantatas from that period and is likely the first to present all of Handel’s cantatas sung by a countertenor. Through this interpretation by a male voice, these works take on a new radiance, and the poetic world depicting unrequited love and inner conflict is vividly brought to life by a unique timbre. Highly acclaimed as one of the leading countertenors of his generation, Gabriel Díaz has performed with renowned conductors such as Jordi Savall and Ivor Bolton, and has appeared at opera houses and music festivals throughout Europe.
