Description:
A masterpiece for viola played by Berlin Philharmonic violist Joaquin Riquelme! This is the second hybrid release of SACD and MQA-CD by Eudora, a Spanish high quality sound label. Under the album title "Encounters," Spanish virtuoso Joaquin Riquelme, a longtime violist with the Berlin Philharmonic, presents a dense selection of masterpieces for viola and piano spanning nearly a century, from Schumann to Enescu. Joaquin Riquelme was born in Murcia in 1983 and studied at the Conservatorio de Murcia, the Royal Conservatory of Music in Madrid, and the Berlin University of the Arts. After serving as the Assistant Principal Viola of the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra, he became a regular member of the Berlin Philharmonic in 2010 and has been viola player for over 10 years. As a soloist, he has performed with the Baden-Baden Philharmonic Orchestra, the Symphony Orchestra of Asturias, and the Murcia Symphony Orchestra. As a chamber musician, he has participated in many ensembles and performed with Emmanuel Payu (also with Payu in 2016), Jörg Wittmann, Christian Tsaharias, and Hartmut Rohde. For Eudora Records, he has participated in the release of Ferdinand Levay's Sonatas (EUDSACD1501), Brahms' Piano Quartets (EUDSACD1701), and the debut album of Camerata, a chamber orchestra formed by young Spanish musicians (EUDSACD 1605). Accompaniment is by Enrique Bagaria, another Eudora artist from Spain and winner of the 2006 Maria Canals Barcelona International Piano Competition. The format is a hybrid of SACD Stereo/Multichannel and MQA-CD, and the CD layer can be played back as a high-resolution source using MQA-compatible equipment. Tokyo M-Plus
