MARIA BC, a post-rock × indie folk singer-songwriter originally from Ohio who has relocated from her base in Oakland, California to Brooklyn. Armed with meticulous songwriting underpinned by classical training and vocals reminiscent of choral music, she pioneers dream pop that carves out new horizons in ambient folk. Her 2026 release marks her second album on the esteemed SACRED BONES RECORDS and her third studio full-length overall. While her 2023 predecessor, 'SPIKE FIELD', possessed a serene, unbroken, long-breath-like quality, this work shifts the creative focus from the recording process to the construction of the songs themselves, elevating it into a more dynamic and diverse piece. The 13-track album features an extremely wide range of sonic landscapes, from the title track "MARATHON" where delicate vocals rise from a wall of heavy noise, to tracks filled with a sense of floating, acoustic resonance, and distorted tracks with glitch effects that seem to embody confusion and disillusionment."THE SOUND," which inspires awe; "SABOTAGE," with its poignant resonance; "MAY THIS RAIN," brimming with profound compassion—these and other tracks weave complex themes of environmental destruction and personal loss into fragile yet beautiful melodies. Written and recorded while traveling across the West Coast, this work traverses macro perspectives on civilization and micro individual emotions, presenting a will to continue living on this fragile planet.
