The Oh Hellos

Description:

THE OH HELLOS, a brother-sister duo from Texas who are currently gaining a following in the indie folk/folk rock scene, are known as one of the leading representatives of the new generation of folk, with a sound that combines lush choruses and dynamic band arrangements around their self-released works. Following 2012's "THROUGH THE DEEP, DARK VALLEY," their 2015 album is based on the concept of a series of letters written by one narrator to one other person, drawing on the classics of English literature.Whereas the previous work delved into the protagonist's past guilt and self-perception, this work shifts the focus to his disengagement from a broken relationship and how he chooses his future back, and the listener accompanies the story as a bystander to the exchange of letters. The album has strong hooks in each song, yet the album as a whole is full of songs that change one's mind, such as "PRELUDE," which slowly expands with strings and chorus like an introduction, "BITTER WATER," which has become a live classic with its tribal rhythm and uplifting chorus, "IN THE BLUE HOURS OF MORNING," a small piece with quiet guitar arpeggios and singing voices that depict the pre-dawn atmosphere, and "SOLDIER, POET, KING," a song that quickly expands into a chorus from a minimal pattern. The album is a collection of songs with strong hooks, such as "MORNING" and "SOLDIER, POET, KING," which quickly expand from a minimalist pattern to a choral piece. While utilizing the richness of the chorus and the dynamics of folk rock, the album maintains its cohesiveness as a concept album with the weight of its words and the looseness of its arrangements. This is a dramatic piece of post-folk rock with strong narrative lyrics and choral power.
