The Four Elements by Lebel is Savard's first recording. Savard, who has unparalleled insight and experience with baroque orchestras, maintains authenticity and pursues tonal beauty in his playing. The dissonance of the opening "Chaos" is also beautiful in tone itself, though it sounds snarky, and gives off a mysterious charm. The works of Matthew Locke, an early English Baroque composer, are memorable for their imitation of storms. Marais's work is an imitation of a storm at sea, and Rameau also performs excerpts of scenes depicting storms from various operas.
