Savall’s “Orfeo” was previously released as a live recording from the Gran Teatre del Liceu (Barcelona, Spain) and received rave reviews. However, it is now difficult to find. The cast is packed with indispensable figures from the European early music scene, such as Figueras, Zanardi, and Mingardo, who appear throughout the production. The instrumental ensemble is also exceptionally strong, with Lawrence King performing on the harp—an instrument Orfeo was known to play.
