Gardiner and his orchestra "Orchestre Revolutionnelle et Romantique" have started recording Schubert's symphonies! Gardiner is a pioneer in the field of old instrumental music and has set a milestone in the recording of Beethoven's complete works and Berlioz's "Symphonie fantastique," but until now he has only recorded Schubert's symphonies with modern orchestra, so this is a very remarkable recording. The first release is No. 5. It is a beautiful and popular work with melodies flowing like a fresh breeze in a style reminiscent of Haydn's. The balance and coloring of each instrument is skillfully executed. Gardiner skillfully controlled the balance and hues of each instrument to bring out new charms of the piece. The players, who beautifully share the conductor's will, also play wonderfully, allowing us to enjoy the true value of Schubert's music. The coupling piece is Brahms' Serenade No. 2, a unique two-orchestra composition with strings that do not include a violin, and the absence of treble strings gives the piece a slightly darker flavor, demonstrating Brahms' unique sensibility.Here, too, you can enjoy the unique colors of Gardiner.
