Amanadine Beye Performs Caldara’s Trio Sonata! The Schola Cantorum Basiliensis (SCB) in Switzerland is known as the leading institution for early music education and research. Amandine Beye appears in the “GlossaSCBSeries,” a collaborative project between Glossa and the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis! Amandine Beye from France and Leïla Chaye from Switzerland. Both studied early music performance under Chiara Bankini at the SCB, and since 2010, Beye has served as Bankini’s successor as a professor at the SCB—making them female violinists of the new generation of early music with deep ties to the SCB. Antonio Caldara (c. 1670–1736)—born in Venice, who built his career in Mantua and Rome before serving as deputy court composer under Holy Roman Emperor Charles VI in Vienna—is best known today as a composer of opera and oratorio, but this album features a selection of sonatas and chaconnes from his “Sonatas for Two Violins and Basso Continuo (Chamber Sonatas),” Op. 1 and Op. 2. Two Baroque violinists ushering in a new era bring Caldara’s sonatas to life with brilliance and elegance.
