The sequel to the first installment of the “Sweelinck Monument” series, “Secular Vocal Works” (GCD922401), released in 2009, is the collection of sacred music “Cantiones Sacrae,” published in 1619! Published in 1619 in the Catholic city of Antwerp, at a time when Calvinism was becoming the dominant faith, *Cantiones Sacrae* is a monumental work that stands in stark contrast to *Psalms*—both in content and religious orientation—as it includes motets with lyrics based on the Catholic liturgy. The album features commentary by keyboardist and musicologist Peter Dirksen, a familiar figure to members of the Dutch Bach Society, and a cover design depicting the Old Church in Amsterdam, where Sweelinck was active as an organist. The *Canzio Sakura Collection* by the Gesualdo Consort Amsterdam not only offers an outstanding performance but also serves as a valuable new resource for the study of Sweelinck and is of exceptionally high artistic quality.
