New recording by Mitzi Meyerson, an original member of Trio Sonnerie, of the harpsichord sonata by Joseph Anton Stepan (Stepan), a Bohemian composer and keyboardist who was highly regarded in 18th century Vienna! The latest release from Mitzi Meyerson, a highly acclaimed harpsichordist whose works have been performed by Barbator, Moufat, Somis, Francoeur, and many others! Specializing in the study and performance of little-known and lost keyboard works, Mayerson has chosen to present the fascination and music historical value of the Bohemian composer and keyboardist Joseph Anton Stephan (Stepan), who was highly acclaimed in 18th century Vienna. Joseph Anton Stepan was born in 1726 in Kopidorno, a small village in northeastern Bohemia. He showed musical talent from an early age and, impressed by his talent, the Count arranged for him to study under the renowned Viennese musician Georg Christoph Wagenseil.Wagenseil's health failed later in life, and Stefan was assigned to his duties as court musician there. The Viennese transcriber Simon Haschke considered Stefan to be one of the greatest composers of our time, along with Wagenseil, Bach, and Haydn, and Charles Burney, a prominent musicologist of the time, listed Stefan and Albrechtsberger (one of Beethoven's teachers) as the two greatest keyboard players in Vienna.
