As part of “The Palestrina Project”—a monumental series led by Harry Christophers that could be described as his life’s work—all 29 pieces of *The Song of Songs*, one of the most beautiful and intimate collections of Renaissance sacred music, have been compiled into a single album. Palestrina’s *Song of Songs* reveals his expressive and deeply human side. Compared to his more formal liturgical works, this collection is characterized by a sensual and lyrical sound that reflects its poetic and romantic text. Faced with texts that are exceptionally deep and romantic for religious music—based on Hebrew love poems from the Old Testament—Palestrina masterfully expressed emotion through subtle harmonic shifts and melodic undulations, all while maintaining his characteristic clarity and purity. This album compiles works that have been recorded and scattered across the previously released discs of *Palestrina (Mass Collections)* Vol. 1 through Vol. 9. Regarding the recording of *The Song of Solomon* in this series, the British magazine *Gramophone* raved, “It captures Palestrina at his most sensual… it is enchanting.” Furthermore, this album includes two previously unreleased pieces, Nos. 28 and 29, making it the definitive collection of the complete works. In 2025, The Sixteen successfully staged their long-awaited concert tour of Japan—their first in 21 years—and their exquisite harmonies were once again met with acclaim throughout the country.
