The Sixteen will tour in Tokyo, Kanagawa, Kyoto, and Fukuoka with a special program celebrating the 500th anniversary of the birth of Palestrina, the "father of church music," and the 90th anniversary of the birth of Arvo Pärt. This commemorative disc is the definitive recording of the entire program performed at the concerts in Japan. The Sixteen's own label Coro's popular series "Palestrina's Masses" (up to the 9th volume) features a variety of selected masses, motets, and excerpts from "The Song of Solomon," as well as a selection of works by Arvo Pärt, a contemporary composer with whom they have been deeply involved, and James MacMillan, a composer who has been a member of the orchestra since its inception. The album features a total of 15 pieces, combining church music by James MacMillan and Arvo Pärt, two contemporary composers with whom they have been deeply involved. The austere beauty of the Renaissance intersects with the serene prayer of the modern age, making this disc a symbol of The Sixteen's artistry.
