Lizzette Oropesa, the lyric coloratura soprano who has captured the world’s attention, sings dramatic, lyrical French bel canto arias! SACD hybrid disc. Lizette Oropesa, a rising star soprano who has performed at the Metropolitan Opera and La Scala. The third release on the PENTATONE label is a collection of French-language bel canto arias by the Italian composers Rossini and Donizetti—her favorites—featuring a selection of gems ranging from lesser-known pieces to famous classics. *The Siege of Corinth*, composed in 1826 by Rossini—who had begun to base his career in France—is a reworking of *Mohammed II*. Rossini changed the language from Italian to French and relocated the setting to Greece, capitalizing on the fervor surrounding the Greek War of Independence at the time. The album features arias that encompass lyricism, drama, emotional intensity, and even comedy. Oropesa delivers these bel canto arias—set to dramatic and lyrical French lyrics—with great artistry! Conducted by Corrado Lovaris. This Italian conductor, who specializes in Italian opera, leads the Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra in a richly expressive performance. Recorded in April 2021 during a session at the Dresden Palace of Culture. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the soloist was positioned in the audience, and the orchestra on stage performed while maintaining social distancing. In addition to the superb performance, it’s worth noting that the recording was handled by the outstanding technical team familiar from PENTATONE recordings, including Job Marce and Erdo Gurt!
