The second release on PENTATONE is a collection of Italian Baroque oratorio arias focusing on the Virgin Mary and Mary Magdalene, the two Marys in Christianity. As with the previous album, Aspromonte himself was responsible for the album's concept and repertoire selection, making this a very elaborate album. Aspromonte's beautiful voice is used to express her emotions and lead us into the dramatic world of the Baroque oratorio. It is also noteworthy that she uses the latest critical editions for many of the pieces. The orchestra features the brilliant Diego Fazolis, who has performed and recorded many baroque operas and oratorios, and I Barocchisti, Italy's outstanding period instrument orchestra. The instrumentalists who support Aspromonte's singing are also outstanding, including the noted Baroque violinist Boris Begelmann, who plays solo in some of the pieces. Please enjoy this famous anthology of fine Italian Baroque oratorios. King International
