Herbert Blomstedt, born in 1927, is the oldest living master of the Brahms symphonies and has been recording them with the Gewandhaus Orchestra in Leipzig. The oldest living master of Brahms' symphonies, born Herbert Blomstedt in 1927, has been recording with the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra and is now releasing the final two symphonies of the project. Blomstedt was Chef of the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra for seven years from 1998 to 2005, and has since taken the podium as Honorary Conductor of the orchestra, with whom he continues to enjoy a very good relationship.
