A Rising Star in the Flute World Ana de la Vega’s highly anticipated second release features a collaboration with young oboist Ramón Ortega Queiro on recordings of Haydn and Stamitz!! Ana de la Vega, a rising star in the flute world who earned high praise for her collection of Mozart and Mislivecek flute concertos (PTC5186723) released on the PENTATONE label. Her highly anticipated second album features recordings of concertos by Joseph Haydn and Karl Stamitz, performed in collaboration with the young oboist Ramón Ortega-Quello and the Trondheim Soloists. Born in Australia to British and Argentine parents, Vega studied with Margaret Crawford at the University of Sydney. She later honed her skills in Paris as the last student of Raymond Gio. She currently maintains an active concert career centered in Europe and has been highly acclaimed at each performance, described as an “outstanding talent” (Wigmore Hall), a “true artist” (Cadogan Hall), and “first-class” (Berlin Philharmonie). Her collaborator, oboist Ramón Ortega-Kero, studied under Miguel Quirós at the Granada Conservatory. He is a prodigious talent who blossomed at a young age, joining the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra founded by Daniel Barenboim in 2003. In 2007, he won first prize at the ARD Munich International Music Competition and has since been active worldwide, focusing primarily on his solo career. The two concertos for lyra organizzata composed by Joseph Haydn are part of a collection of six concertos written for the “lyra organizzata,” and were dedicated to Ferdinand IV, King of Naples at the time, who was a lover of the instrument. Haydn’s beautiful melodies are performed on the flute and oboe. Karl Stamitz was a musician active during the heyday of the Mannheim Hofkapelle. While he was active as a violinist in the Mannheim orchestra, he also developed his talent as a composer. The two concertos included here display the refined elegance characteristic of Stamitz.
