Description:

Passion and Sensuality. The lovely Arabella Miho Steinbacher performs Vivaldi and Piazzolla’s *The Four Seasons* with noble grace on the legendary “Booth” violin!! SACD hybrid disc. Arabella Miho Steinbacher is a captivating violinist renowned for both her popularity and her artistry. The New York Times praised her, stating, “A fine balance of lyricism and passion—her strengths lie particularly in her polished technique and beautifully varied tone.” Recorded in July 2018, her latest album features Vivaldi and Piazzolla’s *The Four Seasons*, performed with the Munich Chamber Wind Orchestra, with the pieces from “Spring,” “Summer,” “Autumn,” and “Winter” alternating on the disc. Vivaldi’s “The Four Seasons,” needless to say, is a masterpiece that allows listeners to fully savor the essence of program music: the gracefully radiant “Spring,” “Summer” with its masterful depiction of sweltering heat and shifting weather, “Autumn” celebrating the harvest, and the freezing “Winter.” Steinbacher’s lustrous and dignified violin tone invites the listener to experience the changing of the seasons. Astor Piazzolla (1921–1992) was a bandoneonist and one of the leading composers of 20th-century Argentina. Composed in 1969, *The Four Seasons of Buenos Aires* is a work brimming with the sensual, nuanced groove unique to Piazzolla, the “revolutionary of tango.” Steinbacher, who also excels at Latin music, delivers a performance that is bold and full of determination. Although the original work was composed for bandoneon, violin, guitar, piano, and double bass, this recording features the version arranged by Peter von Wienhard for violin and chamber orchestra. Steinbacher, whose performance is driven by passion and sensuality, has created a masterful album, playing with nobility on the legendary Stradivarius known as the “Booth.” In addition to the superb performance, this album—recorded by the PENTATONE label’s renowned technical team, including Jean-Marie Heisen and Eld Groot—offers an exquisite, high-fidelity, multi-channel recording captured using DSD recording technology.
