Hats off to the overwhelming technique of the Reed Quintet "Calefax"! The Reed Quintet "Calefax" performs a full program that transcends time and genre! The Reed Quintet "Calefax" makes its first appearance on the PENTATONE label. The quintet has been described as "an ensemble with a pops mentality" and has been highly acclaimed since its formation for its superb ensemble playing with overwhelming technique, and many discs have been released on the German MDG label. The quintet has released many discs on the MDG label and other labels. Since most of the works in the reed quintet are from the 18th century and later, the quintet has actively arranged and commissioned works other than the originals to broaden its repertoire. The quintet also performs jazz and pop music, and has received enthusiastic support from the international music scene. This disc, entitled "Hidden Treasures," features a fascinating array of works from the 15th century to the present day, including Josquin des Prez's "Nymphs in the Forest," Corelli's "La Follia," and Satie's "Three Warped Dances," among others. Franck's Prelude, Fugue and Variations, written for organ, pursues the sound of the original piece, and is a masterful performance that demonstrates Kalefax's true ability.This disc is recommended for reed fans as well as audiophiles!
