Karabits takes on Shostakovich's symphony "Babi Yar"! Pentatone's masterful recording of the powerful male chorus is fully recorded! SACD hybrid disc. The Russian National Orchestra continues its series of Shostakovich symphonies with the Pentatone label, having previously released Nos. 4, 10, and 11 with Pletnov, No. 7 with Paavo Järvi, and Nos. 1 and 6 with Jurowski, and now, with Kirill Karabits conducting No. 13 " Babi Yar" will be released this time under the baton of Kirill Karabits. Babi Yar" is about the murder of many Jews by the German army in the suburbs of Kiev in 1941. The Soviet poet Yevtushenko composed a symphony in 1962 based on the lyrics of a poem written in protest against this incident. However, "Babi Yar" is only the first movement; the remaining four movements are based on Yevtushenko's alarming poem. Karabits, who performed Prokofiev's kitteh "Cantata for the 20th Anniversary of the Revolution" (AU 97754) on the audite label with great command and bursts of intense energy, also shows his skill in "Babi Yar".The tempo is fast and fiery, reminiscent of Kondrashin, but with a 21st century objectivity that makes this a truly ideal performance. The bass soloist is Oleg Zybulko from Moldova. He is an opera singer who has sung with the Canadian Opera Company and other opera houses around the world. With his imposing singing and appearance, he has the potential to become a star in the future. The SACD captures her powerful world in all its glory, along with the male chorus.
