Andrés Orozco-Estrada was born in Colombia in 1977 and studied conducting in Vienna at the age of 19. He is one of the hottest young conductors in the world today. His careful rehearsals and deep trust with the historic Houston Symphony Orchestra allow him to maintain the traditions of the orchestra while bringing fresh interpretations from the young maestros, and this recording is full of passion. Baron van Svieten's free German translation of the English libretto based on the Old Testament "Genesis" and Milton's "Paradise Lost," which Haydn brought back from London, is "The Creation" in three parts and 33 songs.Parts I and II tell the story of God's six-day creation, while Part III deals with Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. The oratorio, with its magnificent chorus and rich melody, is a synthesis of harmonic and counterpoint writing, and is especially impressive in the finale, where the soloist and chorus develop into a solemn fugue and the whole work concludes with a powerful Amen's exclamation.
