Saskia Giorgini, already heard to fine effect alongside Ian Bostridge in songs by Respighi (PTC-5186872) and in Schubert's Die schöne Müllerin (PTC-5186775), makes her solo debut on PENTATONE with Liszt's Harmonies poétiques et religieuses. Liszt's popular image is bound up with transcendental virtuosity, yet much of his music is inward-looking and searching – nowhere more so than in the Harmonies poétiques et religieuses. Inspired by the poetry of Alphonse de Lamartine and by Liszt's Roman Catholic faith, the cycle was composed between 1848 and 1849 and revised in 1853. Its ten pieces form a masterpiece of beguiling beauty that probes the deepest meanings of human existence. Generous playing time of 85 minutes. She won First Prize at the 2016 Mozart International Competition, together with the special prize for the commissioned work. She received the special Fryderyk Chopin Prize at the 2015 Ferruccio Busoni International Piano Competition, and at the 2012 Prix Amadeo International Piano Competition took Second Prize along with the special Mozart Prize and the Audience Prize. She has performed at the Vienna Musikverein, the Vienna Konzerthaus, the Great Hall of the Mozarteum in Salzburg, the St Petersburg Philharmonia, the Warsaw National Philharmonic in Poland, the Teatro La Fenice in Venice and the Seoul Arts Center, among others.
