Kubelík's masterpiece Beethoven Symphonies Nos. 6, 7, and 8 are released on PENTATONE's remastered series of SACD hybrid discs. This is the complete Beethoven symphonies recorded by Czech master Rafael Kubelík (1914-1996) between 1971 and 1975. It is famous as a unique project in which he recorded all nine symphonies with different orchestras. This disc includes Symphonies No. 6 (Orchestre de Paris, 1973), No. 7 (Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, 1974), and No. 8 (Cleveland Orchestra, 1975), and is a remarkable release from PENTATONE's remastered series! The most appealing aspect of the "Rural" performance, in which the Orchestre de Paris was shaken, is the richness of the colorful tone in addition to the fashionable atmosphere typical of French orchestras, which highlights the beauty of the melody. The first movement's presenting part repetition is not performed, and only the normal repetition of the third movement is performed. No. 7 is performed with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. It is a magnificent performance that allows the audience to enjoy the beautiful echoes that resonate throughout the Musikvereinsaal. The presentation repetition of both end movements is not performed, but only the normal repetition of the 3rd movement is performed.The eighth piece, performed with the Cleveland Orchestra, is an excellent performance in which the light rhythms can be heard in three dimensions. The string section, woodwinds, brass, and timpani blend into a single harmony. The first movement's presenting part repetition and the third movement's main part repetition are performed, and the fourth movement's presenting part repetition is omitted. This remastering was also handled by Polyhymnia International (a company established in 1998 by the technical team of Philips Classics as an independent company) in the Netherlands. The reissue from the original master tapes has been meticulously restored to its original state, and the sound is superb. The recordings are all performed in a double-wing arrangement, so you will enjoy the three-dimensional sound.
