Davis & Academy Chamber Orchestra present Purcell's "Dido and Aeneas" on SACD Hybrid! Colin Davis' recording of Purcell's "Dido and Aeneas" with the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields is now available on SACD Hybrid from PENTATONE's RQR Series! Dido and Aeneas, the only opera by Purcell in the strictest sense of the word, is a monumental work of English Baroque opera, so to speak. Based on the story of Aeneas, Prince of Troy and Dido, Queen of Carthage in the Aeneid of Vergilius, the opera was composed in Purcell's mid-20s. The recording was made by producer Vittorio Negri, who was one of the founders of Philips' golden era of recording artists such as Heinz Holliger and Arthur Grumiaux, and who also made recordings as a conductor.The main attraction of this recording is that it has been DSD remastered by Polyhymnia International, the inheritor of the Philips sound. In addition, this series will also pay special attention to the binding, and will use different types of bird images on the cover of each disc. Please enjoy it as a collector's item.
