The Goldberg Variations, consisting of arias and variations, were composed at the request of Count Kaiserling, who was suffering from insomnia due to his hard work at the time, to "comfort him during sleepless nights. This piece, which is also the last chapter of Bach's "Clavier Exercises," is a fine piece full of structural beauty that bridges the gap from the Baroque to the Classical era. However, since it was originally intended to be played on the clavier, which has a two-stage keyboard, it includes some variations that are difficult to play on the piano. Alexandre Tharaud confronts this piece, which is loved by all pianists and piano music fans, with a full heart. The precise and steady tempo, especially the crisp and strong left hand movements, are sure to imbue us with a new sense of this work. Warner Music Japan
