Description:
This jazz-rock opera, created with a free-spirited approach, is dedicated to Bernard Stollman, the founder of ESP Records, who passed away in April 2015. Featuring guest vocalists from across genres, the work consists of 12 acts centered on spoken word and song. The cast includes Walter Egan, who had a pop hit in 1978; country singer Susie Boggs; veteran soul singer Charles Walker; jazz singer Fay Victor and multi-instrumentalist Cooper Morre, both active in New York’s avant-garde jazz scene; and singer-songwriter Freddie Johnston—an unexpected yet stellar lineup. The leaders of this project are pianist and composer Thollem McDonas—who is a member of the band The Naked Future, which has released albums on ESP—and multi-instrumentalist Ed Petersen, also known as Mad King Edmund. They are proudly proclaiming that the spirit of ESPDISK lives on today.
