Frank Lowe, a saxophonist who burst onto the scene in the ’70s with incredible power, shone brilliantly during the later years of ESP as a musician deeply influenced by John Coltrane—as evidenced by his collaborations with Alice Coltrane and his duo album with Rashid Ali. Recorded in March 1973, this album serves as a return to his roots, and his collaboration with Joseph German of the Art Ensemble of Chicago is also noteworthy. The intense, roaring performance that lasts 25 minutes from the opening is simply electrifying. The “Wizard” among the participating members is Leroy Jenkins. It seems he had to perform under a different name due to contractual obligations. This is an essential work in the history of free jazz and loft jazz.
