After completing the "A Day At The Races Tour" in June 1977, Queen began work on a new album in July. In response to the critical acclaim for "A Day At The Races" and the emerging popularity of punk rock, Queen began to scale back some of the more complex arrangements in favor of a more direct hard rock sound. This sonic reorientation results in many of the album's songs being more live-oriented, and both "We Will Rock You" and "We Are The Champions" become enduring rock anthems. The release of "News Of The World" was a huge hit, and the album's tour began on November 11, 1977, with stops in North America, Europe, and England. The most spectacular show of the tour, which was enthusiastically received, was probably the show at The Summit in Houston, Texas, on December 11, 1977. Many fans consider this show to be one of the greatest performances of all time, and it is now available on 2 CDs.
