"Ecstatic Ensemble" is a Swedish vocal group founded by Malena Ernman during the COVID-19 pandemic. Malena Ernman is one of the artists playing a key role in the Swedish music scene. With a wide-ranging repertoire spanning opera, art songs, and cabaret songs, she has been awarded the title of Court Singer and elected as a member of the Swedish Academy of Music. Ecstatic Ensemble garnered attention immediately upon its founding and has earned a reputation as one of the most captivating vocal ensembles in the Nordic region. The concert film created as their debut was streamed by the Stockholm Concert Hall and featured on Swedish television, leading to the production of their first album, *The Lost Music of Women*. This album was conceived as a “musical journey” spanning 3,000 years. The *Hymn of Fulri*, dating from around 1400 BCE, is considered “the world’s oldest notated music to survive in its complete form.” An ancient Greek “Wedding Song.” “Hymn of the Fallen Woman” by Cassia, a nun of the Byzantine Empire. “A Biting Message,” composed by a skald (reciting poet) around 900 AD. “Oh, What an Astonishing Vision” by Hildegard, the medieval German mystic. “Even If It’s Unpleasant, I Must Sing” by a Provençal female troubadour. The 16th-century English folk song “The Frog’s Wedding.” “O Death, Lull Me to Sleep,” written by Anne Boleyn, Henry VIII’s second wife, before her execution. “Grandma Theodora’s Son,” composed by Theodora Hines from the Dominican Republic and considered the root of the Cuban “son.” “What Can I Do?” by Strozzi from the Italian Baroque period. Pieces by Nannerl Mozart (Amadeus’s older sister), Fanny Mendelssohn, and Clara Schumann. “The Women’s March,” a song calling for suffrage by Ethel Smyth of England, one of the pioneers of the women’s liberation movement. “Because” by Florence Price, who made her mark in American music history as the first African American female composer. “Remember Me,” composed by Ernmann. She also arranged all of the pieces. All members of the Ecstatic Ensemble have sung in professional ensembles such as the Swedish Radio Choir, the Erik Eriksson Chamber Choir, and the Møns Dale Chamber Choir. From this ensemble of singers, who have experience across a wide range of genres—including early music, Baroque music, opera, jazz, and musicals—comes the joy of song that moves the heart in any era. The recording took place in a stone church in Ödensala, north of Stockholm, and was produced and engineered by Tore Brinkman of *Swedish Concertos* (Swedish Society SCD1198).
