This album with Parn originated from a project Muhly conceived for the Philadelphia Chamber Music Society in 2020. *Stranger*, a song cycle for tenor and string quartet, explores the theme of immigration, drawing on texts from interviews with and letters written by immigrants. Nicholas Parn is a prominent tenor who has performed at major venues around the world, including Carnegie Hall, London’s Wigmore Hall, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and boasts an astonishingly broad repertoire ranging from Monteverdi to works by contemporary composers. In 2010, he co-founded the Collaborative Arts Institute in Chicago (CAIC), an institution dedicated to vocal performance and research, and serves as its artistic director.
