The Brook Street Band—Handel specialists! A diverse collection of Handel’s violin sonatas! The Brook Street Band is an all-female period instrument ensemble founded in 1996 by Baroque cellist Tatti Theo. The band’s name, “Brook Street,” is taken from the street where Handel lived during his time in London and where he composed many of his masterpieces. Under the leadership of Tatti Theo—who is also active as an editor of Handel’s unpublished works and a scholar of his cello compositions—the ensemble performs as a world-class Handel ensemble. The ensemble made a sensational recording debut with Handel’s “Water Music” in a small-ensemble version (AV0028), and have since been highly acclaimed for their series of outstanding Handel albums, including a collection of cello sonatas adapted from recorder sonatas (AV2118) and several collections of trio sonatas. Their landmark 10th recording is Handel’s “Nine Sonatas for Violin and Basso Continuo.” Rachel Harris, who has played violin with ensembles such as the Age of Enlightenment Orchestra, Florilegium, and St. James Baroque.
