Bach’s “Funeral Music” (the world’s first recording of the fully reconstructed version / AV2241) is Monteverdi’s opera “Orfeo”! ■ The Taverna Consort & Players, whose repertoire focuses primarily on music from the Middle Ages through the Baroque era, were early adopters of the OVPP approach advocated by Rifkin. Their refined, clear sound—a hallmark of their small ensemble—and their historically informed performance and interpretation, based on Parrott’s meticulous research, have continued to evolve. Given that the Tavana Consort & Players’ recordings of Monteverdi—including *Vespers of the Blessed Virgin Mary* and *The Moral and Religious Forest*—have long been acclaimed as masterpieces, expectations are running high for *Orfeo*, released to mark their 40th anniversary.
