Apollos Fire, a Baroque orchestra from Cleveland, Ohio, that is beginning to attract attention among early music and Baroque fans, makes its Avie debut! Founded in 1992 with Janet Soler—a protégé of Gustav Leonhardt—as artistic director (and harpsichordist), Apollos Fire (the Cleveland Baroque Orchestra) This Baroque orchestra, which took its first steps in Cleveland, boasts a string section comprised of virtuosos who studied period performance techniques in the Netherlands under Sigiswald Kuijken and Anner Bylsma, ensuring a remarkably high standard of performance. While Apollos Fire has primarily focused on activities within the United States—including Cleveland—the ensemble is now making a full-scale push into the international scene, marked by the start of releases on the Avie label and plans for its first European tour in November 2010.
