Rattle & LSO's latest release is Janacek's "The Tale of the Clever Fox" and Sinfonietta, a powerful performance that demonstrates the LSO's true potential. The Smart Vixen" is a special work for Rattle. It was the work that inspired me to become an opera conductor, and it is still one of the works that brings tears to my eyes more easily than any other," he said. This recording is a live performance of the semi-staged production directed by Peter Sellars, and it is a performance that is bursting with a wonderful chemical reaction between the selected cast and the LSO members who fully understand and respond to Rattle's sentiments.The Bistrouchka is played by Lucy Crowe, who is extremely popular in the U.K., and the Mori-ban is played by Gerald Finley, who is from Canada and studied voice in the U.K. (he also performed with the LSO's Ninth Symphony conducted by Haitink), and the Mori-ban's wife is Pauline Malefane, who also works as a composer and arranger with the Isango Ensemble (South Africa). Pauline Malefane and a diverse group of singers active around the world come together to beautifully depict the world of the work, which sentimentalizes the encounters and cycles of life. The "Sinfonietta" is an excellent performance that shows off the LSO's fundamental strengths without regret. The fanfare of the opening movement returns in the last movement, and the buildup of the excitement is magnificent. The strength of each wind instrument part and the exquisite blending of brass, the LSO's specialty, exploded in a way that could not be bettered.Unfortunately, the duo's 2020 visit to Japan has been cancelled, but we hope you will experience the energetic performance made possible by the outstanding trust between Rattle and the LSO!
