Description:
LSO's masterful performance! Candide" conducted by Allsopp! A new and definitive recording of this work by a group of splendid singers! Bernstein's "Candide", the latest recording by the LSO in 2018. This is a recording of a concert held to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Bernstein's birth, almost 30 years after the seminal recording made by Bernstein and the LSO in 1989. Candide" was first performed in 1956, but Bernstein made numerous revisions after its completion, and a revised version was premiered in May 1988. The following year, in December 1989, Bernstein himself conducted the London Symphony Orchestra in a performance and recording at the Barbican, followed by a recording at Abbey Road Studios with the same members. Almost 30 years later, the Barbican performance has once again been realized in a form that the composer himself would have approved of. The extraordinary spirit and energy of Allsopp and the LSO can be clearly felt from the overture. The music is full of highlights, but the cast of world-class singers gives each piece a generous and lively expression.Candide" is now available in a new, definitive modern production. [The play takes place in Westphalia. Candide and Cunegonde are lovers. Their relationship is not accepted, and her brother Maximilian condemns them, so Candide is thrown out of the castle and placed in the Bulgarian army. With the castle attacked and the town destroyed, Candide searches for Knegonde. In Paris, a mysterious beauty has captured the hearts of the Jews and the archbishop, but it is Knegonde. Candide is delighted to find her. An old woman appears and warns them that Knegonde's pursuers are coming. The three escape to Cadiz and cross to South America. Act II They arrive in Montevideo. Candide wanders through the jungle and is welcomed at a Jesuit mission. There they find Maximilian. Candide murders him and escapes. In Venice, Candide and Cunegonde meet again. At the casino, Candide bets her freedom and wins it. Candide and Cunegonde are happily united. King International
