Description:
Britten's three masterpieces in glorious performances by Rattle & LSO! The LSO, led by Rattle, presents three of Britten's masterpieces on CD. ≪The LSO's wind instruments in the "Introduction to Orchestral Music for Young People" are full of brilliant sounds. The strings are also attractive with their detailed and lively expression. The Japanese government commissioned works by R. Strauss and various composers for the 2600th anniversary of the Japanese Empire. The list of composers included Britten, who composed "Sinfonia da Requiem. However, due to the word "requiem" in the title, the work was not performed at the ceremony in Japan, and was premiered by the New York Philharmonic conducted by Barbirolli in March 1941. ≪The "Spring Symphony" is the second work commissioned by Koussevitzky (the first was the opera "Peter Grimes"). The work, a wonderful mix of traditional English folk songs and poems, depicts the gradual awakening of the natural world as winter leaves and spring begins to triumph.
