Sir Colin Davis, long celebrated as one of the foremost interpreters of Sibelius, turned to the other great Nordic symphonist late in his career: between 2009 and 2011, with the London Symphony Orchestra – the orchestra he trusted above all others – he completed his first ever cycle of the Nielsen symphonies. To mark the Nielsen anniversary year of 2015, those recordings are gathered here in a more affordable set, with the addition of a Pure Audio Blu-ray disc (*) carrying 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio 24bit/192kHz and 2.0 LPCM 24bit/192kHz. The performances find Davis in vigorous form, and the LSO responds with a full-bodied sound born of genuine respect and confidence in the conductor. For this achievement Davis was made a Commander of the Order of the Dannebrog, the honour presented through the Danish ambassador.
