Scriabin (1872-1915)
Description:
Gergiev and the London Symphony Orchestra take on Scriabin. The first two are "Poems of Ecstasy" & "Sacred Poems" Gergiev and the London Symphony Orchestra took up Scriabin's five symphonies in March-April 2014 under the title "Music in Color." The Poems of Legal Ecstasy and Sacred Poems are SACD recordings from live recordings of those performances and are the first in a series of complete Scriabin symphonies, the most important project to be released during Gergiev's final tenure as chief conductor. In an interview before the concert, Gergiev said of Scriabin: "Scriabin was a great conductor. Scriabin is a great Russian composer. His ability to find his own sonority and to hear its various colors was legendary.Today, Scriabin must be understood as a man who was able to create an astonishingly fascinating musical world, and we cannot help but agree. We cannot help but be enchanted by these works and by the magical powers of their creator." This is the first Scriabin album to feature Gergiev and the London Symphony Orchestra. The duo, who gave an unprecedented performance of the same kind of music in the Shimanowski series, which is almost identical in terms of mystery and sensuality, could not possibly be a bad match for Scriabin, but in fact, the program is just too good to be true. This is Gergiev's first re-recording of the "Poem of Ecstasy" in 13 years, since he recorded it with the Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra in July 1999, and once again we are impressed by Gergiev's rich expression and the high potential of the London Symphony Orchestra.Symphony No. 3, "Sacred Poem," with its three movements each subtitled "Struggle," "Ecstasy," and "Sacred Games," is a work that points out the influence of Nietzsche's transpersonal philosophy, to which he was devoted. The Symphony No. 4, "Poem of Ecstasy," which moves toward mysticism, has a vague sense of time and tonality, and uses "mystic chords," which are synonymous with Scriabin's music, and is enveloped in a bewitching and fantastic mood. The combination of Gergiev's mid-period works, in which his unique technique flourished at once, and his late masterpieces, in which he established a completely original style of expression, is a fitting start to a brilliant series.
